Google and Chromebook Sessions

  • Speaker: Greg Kulowiec

Chromebooks have evolved into a tool that extends beyond the boundaries of Google Drive and the web. Through a combination of audio, video, and screencasting tools, Chromebooks can be transformed into a multimedia creation studio providing students with a unique outlet to create content that extends beyond a document or slides. This session will demonstrate the creative power of Chromebooks and will provide attendees with the tools and resources needed to begin multimedia creation in their own Chromebook environment.
  • Speaker: Avra Robinson

A digital portfolio is a collection of artifacts of learning that demonstrate growth, acquisition of skills or knowledge, and student creativity over time. Google Apps for Education is a wonderful, collaborative platform that allows students to create, collect, and curate these artifacts. While there is a wide variety of programs that can be used to create digital portfolios, in this workshop, we'll explore four ways that the GAFE suite of programs can facilitate digital portfolio creation.
  • Speaker: Ben Sondgeroth

Chromebooks can be so much more than just a tool for word processing, web browsing, and accessing Google Drive. With a host of Chrome Apps, extensions, and web tools available, it has the ability to become a powerful multimedia creation and publishing device. In this session, participants will get hands-on experience using a combination of WeVideo and Soundtrap to create and publish. While the tools of creation are extremely important to understand, strategies for sharing and publishing student work to a wider audience will also be discussed and investigated. After exploring the wide variety of ways these tools can be used across the curriculum, teachers will return to their classrooms with an arsenal of strategies to help unlock the creative minds of their students.
  • Speaker: Christine Boyer

20% Time is a way for teachers to allow students to pursue their passions during the school day. Google made 20% Time famous by encouraging Googlers to spend time at work pursuing independent endeavors from which came Gmail, Google Classroom and Google Cardboard to name a few. These were projects born from passion, not an assignment. When motivation is high, the learning is authentic and meaningful. Traditional classrooms can't prepare our children for the future that awaits them. Adopting a 20% Time mindset will foster problem-solving skills, boost creative thinking and make you re-think your role as a teacher in the classroom.
