With remote and distance learning as the educational environment for the foreseeable future, there is a meaningful opportunity for educators to explore and consider the potential of virtual reality and virtual learning environments in their design of remote learning experiences. Whereas virtual reality was previously reserved for those with high end VR headsets, there are platforms emerging that are accessible across devices (iOS, Android, Web) that require nothing more than an app install or access to a web browser. While video calls through platforms like Zoom and Google Meet are exceptionally helpful, there is a richer opportunity and environment that is waiting to be explored – one where teams or small groups can meet in a virtual physical space that allows for movement and a degree of simulated physical interaction that simply cannot be achieved without these environments. This summer session is designed for educators that are interested in exploring the potential of virtual reality and virtual environments to support remote learning.
